Google has fired a senior software engineer who claimed that the corporation had created a “sentient” synthetic intelligence bot, the corporation declared Friday.

Blake Lemoine, who labored in Google’s Responsible AI business, was placed on administrative leave final month after he reported the AI chatbot recognized as LaMDA claims to have a soul and expressed human thoughts and feelings, which Google refuted as “wholly unfounded.”

Lemoine was officially canned for violating enterprise policies following he shared his conversations with the bot, which he explained as a “sweet child.”

Lemoine commenced talking with the bot in fall 2021 as part of his task, wherever he was tasked with tests if the synthetic intelligence utilized discriminatory or hate speech.

Lemoine, who researched cognitive and pc science in higher education, shared a Google Doc with enterprise executives in April titled, “Is LaMDA Sentient?” but his issues were dismissed.
